The Jonathan Alder Local School District (JALSD) is located in a predominantly rural area primarily in Madison County and extends into Union County to the north. It is situated about 25 miles northwest of Columbus and neighboring Marysville, Hilliard, Dublin, West Jefferson, London and Mechanicsburg. Sixteen miles of US Highway 42 connects the school community from north to south and the geographical area spans 109 square miles (most of which is comprised of rich agricultural and farming land.)
Members of the JA School Community feel a strong sense of pride, one grounded in strong values and a commitment to family. The words of one community leader showcase these positive norms, “There is a strong sense of connectedness and belonging across the community, one where community members have strong values and faith … Many born in the community return to live here and raise their own families.” Additionally, there is a strong identity associated with the district and its schools. Many students, parents, extended family, and community residents proudly wear the Alder “A”, showcasing their strong sense of identity as a JA School Community member.
