Sophomores Should Know...

As a Sophomore, you should:
  • Begin to explore the variety of college majors. You can use Naviance to go to college websites and see their majors. You can also research majors online. Please note that the same major can have many different names.
  • Take an interest inventory if you can. This can help you look for possible careers and college majors. Naviance has a number of career and interest inventories.
  • Continue to fine tune your study plan.
  • Grades-these continue to be very important. If you did not do as well your freshman year as you would have liked now is the time to do better.
  • Review your high school course selections with your school counselor. Attempt to take the most rigorous courses you can. "Best grade-hardest/highest level" in each course taken.
  • Take the practice PSAT/NMSQT -this is a "practice year" so you will know what to expect your junior year.
  • Free ways to practice for the ACT:  Google free ACT Practice Questions
  • Remember the importance of being a well rounded individual. Work toward leadership positions in the activities you like best.
  • Go to virtural college fairs-this is a great way to get information on colleges.
  • Continue to take virtural college visits or take informal college campus visits when colleges open back up
