2026 CMS 6th Grade Camp
May 6-8, 2026 | Camp Oty’okwa

Sixth Grade Camp at Camp Oty’okwa in the Hocking Hills is a rite of passage for all sixth graders at Jonathan Alder. It marks the transition from middle school to the Junior High, shifting the focus from inside a classroom to friendship, teamwork, and environmental science.

Sixth grade camp would not be possible without the help of Jonathan Alder teachers, past camp counselors, and Plain City community members! The teaching staff helps support students at classes, on hikes, and in the dining hall. Camp would not be possible without this amazing staff!

Sixth Grade Camp would not be possible without the Jonathan Alder Junior and Senior high school counselors. The counselors have to fill out an application and go through an interview process to possibly be selected. If chosen, they then complete training to help prepare them for camp. The counselors are always one of the sixth graders favorite part of camp!

Hidden Cave is an optional hike that sixth graders, high school counselors, and adult teaching staff take part in during their time at Sixth Grade Camp! This is the biggest cave they get a chance to explore!

Students are assigned a table where they enjoy the yummy camp food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Students also get to be a table hopper where they are in charge of setting the table, grabbing all food from the kitchen, and cleaning up after themselves when done.
During classes at camp, students get a chance to hike, explore caves and streams, learn about nature and animals, geology, ecology, firebuilding, and shelter building/survival skills. Camp allows students to learn in a fun hands-on way!

Each night at camp students participate in a skit with their high school counselors. The big barn is always full of laughs, cheers, and singing during this time!
The nightly campfire is how we bring camp to a close at night. Campers, counselors, and staff enjoy singing and fellowship with one another.
