Today, September 14, 2021 the Jonathan Alder Local School District currently has 36 active COVID cases. As of this morning we have amassed a total of 115 cases. Last year we did not experience our first case until September 27, 2020. As a district we are following the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Madison County Public Health’s (MCPH) quarantine guidelines. We currently have 121 students and four staff members in quarantine - all out of school due to exposure.
These quarantines directly affect our absence rate for both staff and students. If a student is not in school, they are not learning. If a teacher is not in school their entire class is impacted, as the district does not have enough substitutes to properly cover classrooms.
Due to the vast increase in both cases and quarantines, Jonathan Alder will be implementing a mask mandate for all indoor settings on all district premises, regardless of vaccination status. This mandate will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, September 15, and remain in effect through Monday, October 11, 2021 where it will be evaluated during the Regular Scheduled School Board meeting. This exemption does not pertain to school buses which are functioning under a Federal mask mandate from the CDC.
We want our kids safe. We want them in school. We want them participating in their co-curricular activities and sports. The bottom line is this: If a child is exposed to the virus, and that child is vaccinated or was wearing a mask properly during the exposure, that child does not need to be quarantined and can stay in school. Please help us keep students and teachers in school.
