As we move through the school year, our focus continues to be on providing meaningful, engaging, and student-centered learning experiences across the district. Our teachers, staff, and leaders remain committed to supporting every student’s growth, passions, and success. At the heart of this work is our one-word theme for the year: Connect, a reminder to strengthen relationships, collaboration, and opportunities for all students and families.
Building on that same commitment to excellence, we are excited to share progress on our district facilities work, guided by our master plan to strengthen Community, Connection, and Family. Thanks to the support of our voters and the thoughtful input from the Community Advisory Team (CAT), we now have the team in place to turn this vision into reality.
Following a careful selection process, Steed Hammond & Paul (SHP) will continue as our Architect and Engineering firm, and Ruscilli Construction Company has been chosen as our Construction Manager at Risk (CMR). Together, they bring expertise, experience, and a deep understanding of our instructional goals and community values.
Looking ahead, our construction approach will be phased to minimize disruption while maximizing impact. We will begin with Canaan’s additions in order to create additional classroom space at our elementary schools. We are making strong progress in the programming and design phase for the new Jonathan Alder Middle School (which will serve grades 6, 7 & 8) and the planned addition to Jonathan Alder High School. Each step reflects our goal of creating thoughtful, purposeful, and flexible spaces that support teaching, learning, and connection for years to come.
We are committed to keeping families, staff, and community members informed as designs and projects progress, and we welcome your engagement and feedback along the way. Thank you for continuing to partner with us as we Connect students, staff, and community through meaningful learning experiences and purposeful spaces.
In Gratitude,
James Miller, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Jonathan Alder Local School District
