value of a pioneer education

Alder Family,

As we head into spring break, I want to take a moment to express sincere gratitude for our entire Jonathan Alder community, our students, staff, families, and partners. Your continued support plays an important role in the success we see across our district each day.

This year, our focus has been on one simple but powerful word: Connect.

We see that connection in our classrooms, where teachers build strong relationships with students. We see it in the collaboration between staff and families. And we see it in the shared commitment across our community to support every learner. Because of how we connect, what we accomplish together each day is something special, and something we take great pride in.

Recently, new statewide data provided a look at how school districts across Ohio are performing academically in relation to their spending. Across the state, districts spend an average of $16,069 per student, with an average Performance Index (PI) of 91.8.

At Jonathan Alder, our community has much to be proud of. We spend approximately $14,803 per student while achieving a Performance Index of 95.9, exceeding the state average in student performance while operating below the state average in per-pupil spending.

What this means for our community is clear, Jonathan Alder delivers strong academic outcomes while being thoughtful and responsible with community resources. This doesn’t happen by chance. It is the result of a connected school community that stays focused on what matters most:

  • High-quality teaching and learning

  • Strong relationships with students

  • Intentional and responsible use of resources

  • A supportive community invested in student success

Simply put, a Pioneer education is not defined by how much is spent, but by how well students achieve.

In many ways, this reflects who we are as a district and the values that guide us:

Value the Past. Invest in Today. Elevate the Future.

We honor the strong foundation of Jonathan Alder Local Schools, we make intentional decisions that support students today, and we continue to build toward an even stronger future for every learner we serve.

We hope you enjoy a restful and meaningful spring break with your families. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready to finish the school year strong.

In Gratitude,

James Miller Ed.D.

Superintendent
