The spirit of giving soared this month as students and staff of Jonathan Alder Schools, as well as the Village of Plain City, came together for the annual "Battle of the Cans" food drive against London. The district announced a stunning collection total of 9,696 food items, all dedicated to fighting local hunger.

The annual event coincides with the "Battle for 42" football game between Jonathan Alder and London. Together, the two districts collected over 21,000 food items, demonstrating a powerful commitment to community support.

Food Stays Local to Help Students

All 9,696 items collected by Plain City Schools will go directly to local organizations that support district families:

  • The local Food Pantry

  • Hope's Lantern, which fills food bags weekly for students in need.

This localized effort ensures that the generosity of the community immediately benefits district students and their families who face food insecurity.

A Community-Wide Success

The success of the "Battle of the Cans" was a true community endeavor, driven by participation from every corner:

  • Students brought in food, made creative posters, and helped sort the thousands of donations.

  • Teachers and Staff encouraged participation and often offered fun, creative incentives, such as matching class donations.

  • Community Members and local leaders helped spread the word and contributed generously.

A special thank you is extended to Mayor Carney and the Village of Plain City for their ongoing support of the annual event.
