Jonathan Alder Local Schools proudly celebrated Veterans Day this past Tuesday, November 11, by hosting meaningful assemblies at both the high school and junior high to honor the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
High School and Elementary Assembly
Jonathan Alder High School hosted a special community assembly in conjunction with the Village of Plain City, American Legion Post 248, and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
The ceremony was attended by veterans, community members, and guests, including fourth-grade students from Monroe Elementary and Plain City Elementary. The younger students played a direct role in the ceremony, participating with patriotic readings and a recognition of veterans in attendance.
The program featured a powerful address from guest speaker General Maryanne Miller. The assembly also included moving musical tributes performed by the Symphonic Choir and Band of Jonathan Alder High School.
Junior High Assembly
Jonathan Alder Junior High also held a commemorative assembly, focusing on student involvement and historical context. The program opened with welcoming remarks, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by 7th and 8th Grade Student Council members.
The assembly included a brief history of the "Star Spangled Banner" presentation, the national anthem performed by members of the 8th Grade and High School Choirs, and an introduction to Veterans Day. A choral performance of "The Road Home" by High School Choir members was also featured.
A highlight of the junior high event was the presentation of winners for the school's essay, banner, poster, poem, and short story contests, presented by DAR. The assembly concluded with an address from guest speaker Michael Lupia, an Army veteran.
The Jonathan Alder Local School District extends its deepest gratitude to all the veterans and community partners who participated, allowing the district to continue its tradition of honoring the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes.
