On March 12th, Monroe Elementary hosted its annual Curriculum Night. This is always a very well-attended event, and families look forward to the opportunity to learn and have fun together at school. This year’s theme was inspired by the game Candy Land.

Families were able to enjoy a meal together as we served pizza, chips, and drinks. Mrs. Paige hosted her Title I Parent Meeting, and guests who attended received popcorn. Mr. Polston also had the Monroe Art Show on display, and the Spring Book Fair was open in the library.

Throughout the evening, families had the opportunity to participate in a variety of Candy Land–themed activities around the building, including:

  • Candy Land photo booth

  • Mix and Match in the Lollipop Woods

  • Mr. Mint’s Letter Masterpieces in the Peppermint Forest

  • Math Memory Game in the Gingerbread Village

  • Making a movie in Gumdrop Mountain

One activity we did leading up to Curriculum Night to help build excitement was our “Masked Reader” competition. Throughout the week, teachers received a daily video featuring a Monroe staff member dressed in a costume with their face covered while reading a book and sharing a short tidbit about Curriculum Night.

Students had the opportunity to vote each day on who they thought the masked reader might be. It was so much fun hearing their guesses and excitement as they tried to figure out which staff member was behind the mask!

On Friday, the entire building gathered together for the big reveal, where each of the masked readers was unveiled. The students loved seeing if their guesses were correct, and it was a fun way to bring the whole school together while building excitement for Curriculum Night.
