Monroe Elementary is proud to celebrate the amazing work of first grade teacher Lexus Wolf! Ms. Wolf applied for and received a grant to create a special STEM project for our school—a beautiful mosaic installation that will be displayed outside of the Monroe Elementary building.
This project was truly student-centered from the very beginning. In November, students worked within their House teams to design and collaborate on ideas using their House colors. They estimated how many paper pieces would be needed to mimic mosaic tiles and helped bring the vision to life through planning and creativity.
Using the student designs as inspiration, Ms. Wolf developed the supply list and created large panels for the final project. This past week, students worked in grade-level groups using donated tiles, including tiles made by our preschool students, to carefully place and adhere the pieces to the panels using mortar and grout.
Ms. Wolf shared, “It was exciting to see students go to their House color panels to create their work. This shows that the House System at Monroe goes above and beyond our expectations. It was also sweet to see how invested the kids were in knowing that the project would be hanging outside of our building for years to come.”
This project is a wonderful example of creativity, collaboration, and school pride. We can’t wait to see the finished mosaic displayed for all to enjoy!
