Teen Safety Matters Parent Overview Event - 7th Grade Families

We are excited to share that we will be partnering with Madison County Prevention to present the Teen Safety Matters program to our 7th grade students. This research-based program, developed by the Monique Burr Foundation, empowers teens to prevent, recognize, and respond to bullying, abuse (physical, emotional, sexual), cyberbullying, relationship abuse, digital dangers, exploitation, and human trafficking, teaching critical skills like spotting red flags and using the 5 Safety Rules to foster a safer culture both online and off.

To help parents understand what their children will be learning, we invite 7th grade families to join us for an overview parent meeting. During this event, we’ll give an overview of the program, share examples of classroom activities, and answer any questions you may have. This will be a valuable learning experience for parents. We also anticipate a representative from the probation department to be on hand to discuss dangers and implications of sharing inappropriate content. The parent overview presentation will be on Tuesday, January 13th, at 6:00 PM in the JAJHS Library.

Teen Safety Matters will be delivered by program leaders in 7th grade social studies classes at the end of January. Parents were given the opportunity to opt-in/out of the program at the start of the year. If you are unsure of your decision, wish to change your decision, or have any questions about the program, please contact our district Student Support Specialist, Mrs. Sarah Wiechman: wiechmsa@japioneers.org

We value our partnership with families and appreciate your ongoing support in helping our students stay safe, healthy, and confident.
