Laura Numeroff speaking to PCES students

On May 5, Plain City Elementary had the absolute joy of welcoming beloved children's author Laura Numeroff for a special visit! Known for her whimsical and imaginative storytelling, Laura spent the day sharing her books, experiences, and inspirations with our students — and it was truly unforgettable.

Our littlest Pioneers in kindergarten and first grade were treated to storytime with Laura, who read some of her most popular books, including If You Give a Moose a Muffin. The room was filled with laughter, wide eyes, and giggles as students followed along with her stories.

Students in grades 2 through 4 enjoyed a special presentation, where Laura read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and shared a behind-the-scenes look at her journey as a writer. Through a fun and engaging PowerPoint, she talked about her inspirations — including the books Eloise and Stuart Little — and gave students a peek at some of her other beloved characters. One exciting highlight was when she revealed that her next book will feature corgis and is titled Max and Mama!

Perhaps the most delightful moments came when she showed childhood pictures of herself — with a puppy, a kitten, and even a goat (though she humorously confessed she never actually owned one!). Every photo sparked a heartfelt “Awww” from the students that filled the cafeteria in anticipation.

Laura shared that she had never presented to a group as large as our school — over 700 students — and was incredibly impressed by the respectfulness and thoughtful questions from our PCES kids. We couldn’t be prouder!

This memorable event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of our amazing PCES parents, who supported transportation, lunch, book signings, and all the logistics behind the scenes. Thank you for helping make this author visit a magical experience for our students! Plain City Elementary continues to be a place where stories come to life — and this day will surely be one our students remember for years to come.
